Clear deposit in triangle of trees or rock is a Yamashita treasure sign composing of a triangle with a dot at the center. The triangle is actually a representation of a “triangular formation” of a group of large trees or rocks. As for the dot in the middle, it denotes the hidden item.

The overall interpretation of this symbol means, “The treasure deposit is buried at the center of the trees or rocks forming a triangle”.

Triangle Yamashita Sign

Commonly Asked Questions

Is the treasure deposit buried right under this sign?

The answer is “No”. As already stated above, the item is buried in the middle of rocks or trees in triangular formation.

Most amateur THs (treasure hunters) actually often dig under every signs that they encounter which is a “very common mistake”. Doing this is a complete waste of time, effort and energy. You have to know that the sign above is often engraved by the JIA (Japanese Imperial Army) a few distance away from the deposit site.

Does this sign tell what kind of deposit was buried?

Again, the answer is “No” but “if it is accompanied by some other signs” then they might tell something about the buried deposit.

What about the depth of the buried item?

This sign is only application on the “outside or surface environment” which unfortunately “does not tell anything about depth”. Anyway, once you started digging the correct spot, you will discover additional signs that can give estimate depth of the buried treasure.

How many deposits are buried around the site?

There is only one buried deposit which is indicated by the single dot inside the triangle sign. Thus, if it happens that there are several dots then it means that there are multiple hidden deposits. Unfortunately, there is only one.

Is it a good YMTS (Yamashita treasure sign)?

In my own personal opinion, the sign above is an “interestingly good” YMTS because it reveals the exact location of the hidden deposit. Considering that you encountered this sign, it gives you the hint to search for a group of trees or rocks forming a triangle. In most cases, they are composed of “three rocks or trees” situated apart but when connected together with an imaginary line, they form a triangle.

Once you found the group of trees or rocks being referred by the sign, locate the center portion and that will be the digging spot. Overall, it is a very good sign disclosing the exact location of the hidden treasure.

Moreover, I would suggest reading Treasures to one side of tree/rock and Deposit around the tree/rock because they are both relevant topics to this post.

    • Hi Sir. We found three old trees. They are old (century) Star Apple trees planted in triangular formation. The distance between them is 4 x 5 x 5 meters apart from each other. When I used a compass at the middle of the formation, the 90 degree angle will hit the century Mango tree which is 10 meters away from the group of Star Apple trees.

My question, is the deposit buried at the center of the Star Apple trees or near the Mango tree?

There are several aspects that needs to be considered before we can say that the item is buried at the center of the Star Apple trees or near the Mango tree. The first aspect that I would like you to do is to observe for bent branches. Take note, it must be one of the main branches.

    • Hello Sir Elmo. I would appreciate your idea about the triangular trees in our property. The trees are more than 70 years old. The first tree is bent over facing a little creek with an old bamboo. Second tree has its perfect two big identical holes (shaped circle) facing at the middle of the three trees. The third tree has a pointer sign carved on it which is pointing to an old coconut tree. I am wondering where the possible hidden spot of the treasure. Thank you Sir Elmo and God bless.

Basing on the details that you described here, there are three separate deposits around the area. The bended tree will be your best choice because the item is nearby. As for the other two old trees, the deposits are hidden a few distance away from them.

    • Sir during our digging, we found 4 rocks at 18 feet deep which were arranged in triangular position. One of them was a perfect ball shape and it was placed in the middle of the three rocks. We continued digging down to 22 feet and we uncovered perfectly cut stones shaped into triangles with dots at their center. Reaching 36 feet deep, we found a turtle (sleeping position).

The backfilling method that we noticed consist of different types of hardened or cemented gravel/sand with full arranged fresh river stones. Intervals of each layers is about 4 feet thick. Anyway, based on the signs that we encountered, does it mean that we are near the item?

Probably, you are already near the item due to the turtle sign that you encountered. But, I am a lot more interested about the ball shape stone that you found at a depth of 22 feet. Have you tried breaking it apart?

    • Hi Sir, in my place there is an old coconut tree planted by Japanese soldiers. We saw an engraving of letter C and three dots ( C . . .) the dots was located under the letter C. What does it mean? thank you.

    • I can interpret that as "three separate deposits nearby".

    • Hi Sir, me and my friends goes to treasure hunt near the sea in the Philippines here at Cebu. We see a 3 consecutive triangles inside the big hole and then we curios about that. Sir can you help us?

    • It has something to do with the corners inside that big hole.

    • Sir, I was confused with this clear deposit because we found an area where in there holes in three rocks one for each, and one is inside a little triangle. Holes depth is exactly 3 inches. There are shoe print, foot fingers prints and one of the rocks with a hole has a slanting heart at its side with a hole on its bottom. At distance of 90-95 meters from this area there old tree with heart, Well and bamboo seems formed a triangle and from that area 50-60 meters away there big trees and a rock shaped like a turtle with a left foot mark on its side.

What do you think Sir? Are these authentic signs of treasure and how many deposits are there?

    • I think there are three. Each of those sites that you mentioned probably contain a deposit. Anyway, regarding about those shoe or foot print that you found, I suggest that you search the post and read the meaning of this symbol so as the turtle sign. As for the heart, it simply symbolizes "wealth" which is a confirmation sign that the site is positive.

    • Sir Elmo please help us to interpret our findings during our digging. I Sent the pictures on your facebook page Private messenger. This is Rus.

      Thank you Sir.

    • Sure, I will check it right after I am done with all pending comments on this blog.

    • Hello Sir Elmo, I am Elmer Zamora, please help me Sir Elmo. Regarding my site, the sign is triangle with dot 8 inches deep at the center by engrave on the big stone. In estimated 100 meters distance found the old Tugas tree forming triangle with big stone at the center. Beside the big stone, there was 7 meters deep hole.

My question Sir Elmo is, how deep is the object buried object?

      Thanks and God bless.

    • Your question is too early to be asked. Your first priority should be to locate the correct digging spot. Once located, start digging then tell or describe to me any strange encounters or objects that you uncovered. Through them, I might be able to tell an estimate depth of the buried item.

    • I see a sign on the rock with a through-and-through hole. With an X mark on the top. What is the meaning of that sign? Please help us. Thank you.

    • I already have a post that answers your question. Please use the Search Form to find that topic.

    • Hi Sir. I just want to ask, about treasure placed inside a hardened stone or concrete? How can you break those concrete square thing? I usually read something like this but never mentioned how to break it.

      Please give us an advise.

    • We use special type of chemical such as Dexpan for breaking such tough concrete. However, access to these kinds of chemicals can be hard to acquire especially in the Philippines. Anyway, there are many other alternative to this product which can only be bought from the black market.

    • Yesterday, I went on a hike and saw this symbol and took a picture.

    • Please describe the sign you found in details so I can give my reading or interpretation to what it means.

  • My uncle discovered 3 mango trees in triangular form. The mango seems like 100 years old already and there is a stone forming cobra in the middle. What does it implies?

    • That is a very interesting project to work on. Anyway, you need to be careful when dealing with a century tree like that because there is a huge chance that spirits are living or protecting that tree. As for the cobra sign, it is considered a danger sign which means that there is a presence of poison traps. But the good side is that, it is facing the portion or spot where you need to dig.

  • Hi Elmo, I have a few question. What is the meaning of 3 triangular post concrete stone with big rocks over the 3 triangular stone? There are also X and fish signs nearby stone? We saw this in Coron Palawan over 150 meters high rocky mountain?

    • The presence of the fish and X sign being together means that the deposit is hidden underwater. Those three concrete posts are the corners where the item can either be inside or outside the triangular formation.

  • In connection to that white stone, it is the only one stone that they found in the river and that stone attached to another stone. It looks like a cover. What is the meaning of this Sir? and the two triangle that pointing to each other?

    • The two triangle pointing to each other means that you need to check the middle of the area or the item is hidden at the center of a certain two markers. As for the stone that your found, it is just probably a marker stating that the area is a positive site.

  • Hello Mr. Elmo. I would like just to ask some clarifications regarding to the site where we are currently working. The signs are two (2) Century Mango trees in triangle formations. The first triangle formations have an equal of 700 meters each side and the other one is triangle formations with equal 7 meters each side located in the center of the first formations and near the creek. Where would be the item located in this kind of pointer? and how much we are expecting? Currently, we already passed different rock file formations and rock variety while digging. Now we encountered cement like which is very difficult to break to go more forward at the depth of approximately 50 feet at the center of small triangle formation. Looking forward to hear from you Sir and Thank you in advance.

    • Those old century mango trees are markers signifying that the area covered by their triangular formation is positive of treasure deposit. If you are going to closely observe and explore around, there should be other signs that could tell more specific location about where the item is currently hidden. Now, from that 50 feet of depth that you already dug, there should be markers that you have uncovered which confirms that you are on the correct spot. On some instances, there are even signs that will tell you to change in direction. So if you dig a certain spot and you are not getting any clues then it means that you are digging at the wrong spot.

  • Good day Sir Elmo,

When I am walking towards the mountain, I saw a turtle with an engraved eye. The eyes of the turtle is pointing to the creek. Can you explain to me what is the meaning of this?

    • It means that the deposit is hidden somewhere on the creek. But if you are going to explore the creek, you should encounter another sign that could tell a more accurate details of the item’s location.

  • Hi Sir Elmo, good day.

I’m Rey Cuevas from the Philippines, I found 12 steps of stairway inside the cave which is a perfect man-made near the river in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Is it possible that it is a Yamashita treasure or positive sign? What will I do?

Your reply Sir is highly appreciated. Thanks.

    • There are two ways on how to interpret the stair case as a sign. First, you have to dig it down to its most bottom edge. When you reach this part and you are lucky, then you will discover the item. Otherwise, you may encounter another sign giving you a hint about a new direction or what to do. Second, dig underneath the stairs. It’s because underneath it, you should be able to recover the deposit. And just like the first interpretation, if not an item then it is a sign.

  • If the sign is triangle, which point to start digging?

    • A triangle marker usually refer to a certain corner.

  • Boss, good evening.

How about a turtle print in a carved rock? A print emphasize a turtle with no legs. You could only identify its head, body and tail?

The center of this, I mean its body portion is full of mud.

In other area, there are also signs that involves something like triangular shape with hole along the line and in every corner. 12 holes all in all.

    What do these means?

    • A turtle sign without any legs is referring to that particular spot since having no legs means, you do not need to go any further. The turtle’s head being out confirms that the deposit is nearby where its head is directly pointing towards the corner where you may need to dig.

As for your other area, you may really have to work on every corners of that triangle. The holes probably indicate depths or perhaps the number of layers.

  • Hi Elmo,

What is the meaning of heart that is engrave in the century mango tree? Beside the mango tree on the east side, there is an old tabon-tabon fruit 5 meters from mango tree and old coconut tree on the south side 10 meters away from mango tree.

    • That engraved heart marker on that old century mango tree means that there is a large hidden treasure deposit on that site. On some cases, heart symbols can also be interpreted as a direction indicating its location as the exact digging spot. But before you start digging, I would like to advise that you should double check again the surfaces of all those old trees because there could be other markers that can give more specific clues of what you really need to do.

  • We found a three big stones. The first one is flat triangle shape and under that stone is huge and big like a diamond shape the third one is pyramid shape on the side and they have the same symbol. It’s like a half diamond but there’s a line under |< like this but the line is under.

We cannot dig more because of the mud and clay, a very fine sand, and red clay type.
And it has water. What’s that mean did the deposit is underneath?

    • The line under the half-diamond symbol symbolizes a layer which is very hard to dig which you are experiencing right now. You also need to deal with that water problem because as you attempt to dig deeper, it will really going to become a serious problem.

The half-diamond marker is actually an arrow head which means you need to continue digging and as for the line, it means the real challenge of digging the treasure start’s at that point.

  • I found in the hole of old spring a wood cut forming triangle at the other side forming X. What is the meaning of this? Any idea? I remove the sign and start digging found a black color stone and at the bottom the blue color stone. Any suggestions about this?

    • This is quite interesting but I do suggest putting more work into it. Keep digging for a little bit more and let’s see what you might uncover next that could provide more valuable hints.

  • Just ask. The area have triangular bamboo tree then in that area, they found hard man made rock and they broke it. Inside the rock they found nails four inches height, what does it mean?

    • Old bamboo trees aligned in triangular formation is a very good marker often used by the JIA. As for that man-made rock that you broke and you found nails in it, it means that the deposit are hidden or stored inside rocks or concretes. And since there are three nails, it possibly means that there are three separate deposits around.

  • A few years ago I spotted a triangle stone marker just a few meters from the beach. During low tide, the marker would surface. At the middle of the triangle stone, is a stone in form of a heart shape. At one end of the triangle is a circle. By the way, the size of the triangle stone is approximately around 1meter by 1meter by 1meter. One tip of the triangle is pointing an old church. What does the markers mean and is it possible that the triangle is pointing to the church where the depo is?

    • Your speculation is correct, you have to know that the JIA do much prefer to hide their treasures on old sacred places particularly churches.

  • Sir Elmo, help me what is the meaning of sign on the top of big stone like an eye or diamond with a dot on the center, I want to know about that sign of treasure thank you. Kindly mail me if what is that sign because I will start to dig if possible there is an buried items on the rock.

    • If that is an eye then it is a directional sign. It is interpreted where you are going to dig or check on the spot where the eye is directly staring at. But if it is a diamond, then it is a confirmation sign that the site is positive of hidden treasure deposit.

  • Sir Elmo,

Kindly help me what is the sign also three hole with a straight I found it on the lake two of the are the size of a cup of pitcher, and I see like a grove of a drill in the center hole is a small hole with a deep of 4 cm diameter. What is the meaning of that? Thank you Sir Elmo.

    • The three hole could represent three old rocks or trees near the area that are also aligned in straight line. Thus, I suggest exploring the area if such objects does exist.

  • Sir Elmo the sign is just a bamboo groove. When we dig it there’s a concrete of almost 2 meters ahead. And also there’s a hole on cave so deeply vertical hole. Is the treasure in the cave or in direction of hole?

    • I think that there can be two separate deposit here. So yes, in my own opinion there is one in the cave and the other at the direction of the hole.

  • Sir we are amateur Treasure hunter. please help us to interpret the Y river sign we encountered.

    • This Y sign refers to the intersection portion of the river.
